Obsidian Forest
by Alps Aris Sarsis

I panted heavily, stopping completely, just looking up into her eyes. She looked at me coldly, as I decided to just accept my fate. The wild vixen put the knife to my neck, growling savagely. I looked into her intense eyes. She was so lovely. This is the image I would take with me to the grave. I was tired of the running, I could not deal with the stress anymore. I didn’t even know where I was running too. There were far uglier things in these woods, I was sure, that could kill me.

I felt the hard, terrible pain across my throat, and then tried to cough, as I felt wet heat enter my lungs. I writhed pitifully under her, as she held me down, growling savagely. I should not have run from her. I should have faced her when I still had the strength to fight her. I might.. I just might.. have survived. The pain washed into dull non-feeling, and then cold surrounded me, as the vixen leaned over slowly, and kissed my cheek, murmuring something in her tongue, softly, and regretfully. Perhaps she was a sentry, or something of that nature. It was possible that she did not enjoy having to do this at all. her job. Her duty to her people. I forgave her, as my mind slipped into nothingness.
